Reflection
Throughout the course's progression and completion of three major projects, I have delved into an intricate world of genres, composing techniques, and rhetorical strategies. All the projects that I have worked on throughout my semester in ENC 2135 have allowed me to research the impact of traditional and social media on legal proceedings. This investigative journey has been particularly enlightening for me and my pursuit as a business management major on the Pre-Law track.
My favorite project that I completed for this course was the Multi-genre Persuasive Campiagn. As someone drawn to creativity, this project resonated with me and allowed me to merge my passion for innovative thinking with creating persuasive communication strategies. This project enabled me to explore unconventional methods of advocacy and communication, breaking away from the traditional essay format and embracing a diverse range of genres. As a creative individual, it allowed me to unleash my imagination and express my ideas through various creative mediums. One of my favorite hobbies is graphic design, so the most enjoyable genre to create for this campaign was the infographic, which is one of the artifacts I have displayed on my site.
Before I took this class, I had a very basic understanding of rhetorical strategies, but I learned a lot more about them throughout the course of this class. More specifically, the Rhetorical Analysis of Field Artifacts. This particular project introduced me to a practical application of rhetorical analysis by examining field artifacts. I examined a research paper and a news segment for my essay. One significant aspect of this project was its practicality in real-world contexts. It allowed me to apply rhetorical analysis beyond traditional texts and allowed me to discover the persuasive elements present in the world around us. This process of dissecting field artifacts not only honed my analytical skills but also heightened my awareness of the deliberate rhetorical decisions made in different professional fields, such as marketing and digital media.
The Investigative Field Essay was the most difficult project of the entire semester. I had never written an as intensive research paper previously, so navigated through the entire process proved to present a steep learning curve. The sheer volume of research required was daunting, and initially, I found myself grappling with organizing the multitude of sources and information gathered. It demanded not only a comprehensive understanding of the chosen topic, but also the ability to critically evaluate sources, discerning credible information from biased or unreliable content. Learning to sift through the myriad of sources to construct a well-supported argument was an entirely new and demanding experience. However, despite the initial difficulties and the steep learning curve, writing the Investigative Field Essay was an invaluable experience. It pushed me beyond my academic boundaries, honing my research, analytical, and writing skills significantly.
Overall, this class allowed me to research a topic associated with my field of study. The culmination of three major projects has been instrumental in my growth as a student and aspiring professional within the realms of business management and law.
